Certificates (15 working days)
The last-wills and life-insurance certificates can be requested from the Ministry of Justice once 15 working days have passed since the death.
Inheritance tax (arts. 67 and 68 RD 1629/1991)
6 months from the death. You can ask for a further 6 within the first 5, with late-payment interest.
Madrid region
99% relief for groups I and II and, since Law 2/2025, 50% for group III. It applies when the Madrid region is competent based on where the deceased lived.
Municipal capital gains tax (art. 110 TRLRHL)
For inheritances, 6 months from the death, extendable up to one year at the taxpayer's request.
How we count
Periods in months run date to date. If the final month has no such day, the period ends on its last day.
